An intervention in Syria is to inevitably spread on the whole Middle East – it’s a prelude for an offensive launched by Islamists against the southern part of Russia. If the interventionists succeed in overthrowing Bashar Assad, then Qatar, Saudi Arabia and Georgia will join the United States in the game called «Syria – Step on Way to Caucasus».
The Veterans Today has recently published an article by Gordon Duff, an American investigative journalist, saying the chemical weapons used in Syria by anti-government militants were transported from the US central referral laboratory of social healthcare situated in Alexeyevka near the Georgian capital Tbilisi. It was supplied by American controlled Turkish experts…
Irakli Alasania, Georgian Minister of Defence, the issue of Georgia’s participation in the military operation against Syria is not on the agenda. It does not match the Tbilisi's previous statements on Syria and the fact that Georgian citizens are taking part in combat actions on the side of militants. Tbilisi appears to consider the potential US attack against Syria as a democratic procedure just as they viewed the attack against the peacefully sleeping Tshinvali, South Ossetia, as an action aimed at restoration of historical justice.
The Georgians fighting in the militants ranks in Syria are actually Chechens coming from the Georgia’s Pankisi Gorge. Two of the Chechen commanders in Syria are Abu Omar al-Shishani (the head of North Caucasian jamaat) and Saifullah. Ethnic Chechens make up at least a half of jamaat fighters. There are others who come from republics of North Caucasus, as well as the citizens of Azerbaijan. According to some estimates, a few dozen of Pankissi Chechens fight under the banner of Omar al-Shishani. Tbilisi is not concerned. Since a long time the Georgia’s Pankissi Gorge has become a safe haven for former Chechen militants who enjoy partner-like relationship with Georgian curators.
Some time ago there was a split in the ranks of North Caucasian jamaat. Omar al-Shishani quarreled with emir Saifullah blaming him for oppressing civilians. He even banished him and his accomplices from the formation he heads. Before that, Omar al-Shishani had ousted Emir al-Banat, the Dagestani national suspected of murdering two Syrian priests. In response Saifullah posted a videoclip where he dismisses all the accusation directed at him and says he is not like the ousted al-Banat.
At the time the world is frozen in anticipation of a US-led armed intervention against Syria the militant field commanders all of a sudden start to express concern over the fate of civilians overtly criticizing their comrades-in-arms for mistreating them. Evidently they try to boost their image with prospects for future in mind. Observers believe Omar Shishani may rise to join the ranks of Syrian armed opposition top leaders.
Many a time Russian law enforcement agencies expressed their concern over the terrorists who, having survived the battle in Syria, will, sooner or later, return to the places of their permanent residence, including Russia. They are seasoned terrorist militants, well-connected with extremist organizations. The writing they daub on the walls – «Syria today, Russia tomorrow!» – is a geopolitical credo of their foreign sponsors.
Syria has become a hotbed of destabilization that may encompass a huge area, including the southern part of Russia. The «Chechen factor» has an important role to play here. The West understood since the 1990s that if one harbors the plans to make Russia collapse, then the most vulnerable underbelly is the Caucasus. As is known, a certain segment of North Caucasian armed underground is controlled by Riyadh – the key US ally in the Muslim world.
Sunni radicalism can be used to destabilize the situation in Crimea where Sebastopol, the homeport for Russian Navy, is located (the Crimean Tatars are Sunni Muslims). Since a long time the Saudis have been trying to get a foothold there: they invest into the economic projects in the Peninsula, educate Crimean Tatar youth in their madrasas, and provide funds for erecting new mosques.
The alliance with radical Islam allows the West to tackle geopolitical issues of extraordinary scope. Curtailing the Russian presence in the Black Sea area is a coveted desire of Tbilisi since a long time. In August 2008 the Russian Black Sea fleet ships based in Sebastopol played an important part to make succeed the peace enforcement operation against Georgia.
Today the way the events that unfold as the game «Syria – Step on way to Caucasus» is being played on, should be thoroughly scrutinized.
