In 1874, Henry Stanley\u2019s support of King Leopold to claim and subdue the Congo was funded by the New York Herald<\/em> and the London Telegraph<\/em>.<\/p>\n

In 1879, Stanley was funded by the International Association, founded by Leopold II in 1878 with financing from an international group of bankers.<\/p>\n
