Document well the surface of the 4th planet because it will be going through some major changes.
Phase 1:
We will guide dozens of Giga to Terra ton asteroids into a collision course with our dead neighbor; in addition, we can clean up the Earth crossing ones by uniting them with Mars.
It would be also be desirable to pound the red planet with water laden comets.
Of course, this will increase the gravitational pull of Mars.
The angle of impacts need to increase the spin of the planet to also to amplify its relative mass.
Most likely Mars will have a ring system from all the ejecta.
Phase 2:
The first Earthly colonists to Mars will be carbon dioxide eating extremophiles with the waste product of oxygen...

All these titanic impacts will ignite the Planets' volcanism & cause its subterranean oceans to surface.
With an increase in mass & gravitational pull, Mars' atmosphere can have a better grip on the Planet.
And I'll bet a "Blue Bar Gold Backed 100 Bill" that a Magnetosphere generated by it's molten core will preserve its atmosphere.
